September 8-10, 2025, US-Taiwan Business Council President Rupert Hammond-Chambers, Staff Assistant Ethan Huang, and a group of tech executives traveled to Taiwan for the Council’s 2025 technology delegation. The group met with Taiwan Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim  and Premier Cho Jung-tai for discussions on technology policy priorities in Taiwan, the impact of U.S. trade policy on Taiwan’s technology ecosystem, and securing the semiconductor supply chain.

The Council delegation also held meetings in Taipei with government officials from the Executive Yuan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Additionally, the delegation exchanged ideas with representatives from the American Institute in Taiwan, with SEMI, and with Taiwan technology company leaders.

The visit was punctuated by a joint event with SEMI at SEMICON Taiwan, where President Hammond-Chambers served as the moderator for “The End of Cost & Convenience – How Geo-Strategic Issues are Impacting the Supply Chain” panel discussion with other technology delegation members.

Issues discussed during the many high-level meetings with Taiwan government officials and business leaders included:

  • The status of the U.S.-Taiwan bilateral relationship on technology and trade
  • Tariff negotiations
  • Taiwan’s economic development plans for AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and other advanced technologies
  • Incentives for U.S. companies to invest in Taiwan’s technology sector
  • US-Taiwan collaboration on export controls.
  • How Taiwan is addressing supply chain resilience, de-risking, and developing a non-red technology supply chain
