US-Taiwan Business Council Signs MOU with CIECA, TaiwanOn May 13, 2025, the US-Taiwan Business Council (USTBC) and the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA), Taiwan completed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly explore new opportunities for economic and trade cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. USTBC and CIECA both recognize the potential of a strategic partnership, with the MOU allowing the two organizations to establish a closer cooperation mechanism and build on existing exchanges.

The MOU was signed in Washington, D.C. by USTBC President Rupert Hammond-Chambers and CIECA Chairman Joseph Jye-Cherng Lyu. Signing ceremony witnesses included Dr. Ming-Hsin Kung, Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan; Alexander Tah-Ray Yui, Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in United States; Ingrid Larson, Managing Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT); and Raymond Greene, Director, AIT Taipei. Business representatives from Taiwan’s SelectUSA investment delegation, USTBC member company representatives, and senior negotiators from Taiwan’s Office of Trade Negotiation also witnessed this shared commitment to bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

In remarks during the ceremony, USTBC President Hammond-Chambers expressed his hope that this important collaboration would continue to deepen bilateral economic, trade, and business relations between the United States and Taiwan. CIECA Chairman Lyu said that Taiwan is a long-term economic and security partner that supports U.S. efforts to encourage the return of manufacturing and plays an active role in U.S. re-industrialization. He also welcomed expanded cooperation and encouraged additional U.S. investment in Taiwan.

The US-Taiwan Business Council is looking forward to working with CIECA to promote and deepen U.S.-Taiwan relations.
