January 26-28, 2026, US-Taiwan Business Council Chairman Keith J. Krach, President Rupert Hammond-Chambers, members of the Council’s Board of Directors and Chairman’s Circle, and a delegation of company representatives visited Taiwan for the 2026 Chairman’s Delegation.
The group met with Taiwan Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao, and held meetings with government officials from the Executive Yuan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Office of Trade Negotiations, and the National Development Council. The delegation also met and exchanged ideas with CIECA and with representatives from the American Institute in Taiwan and the Kuomintang.
Issues discussed during the high-level meetings with Taiwan government officials and business leaders included:
- The status of the U.S.-Taiwan bilateral relationship and ways to expand bilateral business and commercial ties.
- How the Lai Administration plans to navigate trade policy considering the new tariff deal and ongoing U.S.-China trade friction.
- An update on the implications for Taiwan and bilateral/regional relations of the recently concluded tariff trade deal between the U.S. and Taiwan.
- Update on Taiwan’s economic development plan, especially for emerging technologies like AI, quantum computing, etc. for 2026 and beyond.
- What is the Taiwan government doing to encourage a robust non-red supply chain?
- Taiwan’s current and future economic development incentives and incentives for U.S. companies to invest in Taiwan (particularly given the incentives offered by other countries).
- Status of and plans for building out Taiwan’s business infrastructure (power/water/land/factories/roads), and strategies for ensuring that investors have access to the energy and resources needed.
- Taiwan’s approach to funding infrastructure, national security initiatives, and to sustain that financing going forward.
- Taiwan government’s perspective of cultivating and retaining talent to support long-term competitiveness.
